Is fruit bad for blood sugar?

Fruit is not bad for blood sugar and can absolutely be part of a healthy, balanced diet for people living with diabetes. Although fruit contains natural sugars, it also provides fibre, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support overall health. The fibre in whole fruit slows digestion and helps reduce sharp rises in blood sugar, especially when fruit is eaten whole rather than as juice. Portion size, fruit type, and how fruit is paired with other foods matter. Combining fruit with protein and/or fat, (e.g. yoghurt) can help keep blood sugar levels stable. For most people, including those living with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, regularly eating whole fruit is associated with better health outcomes, not worse blood sugar control.

Weight Management and GLP-1 Medications

Weight management with GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro is maximised when supported by structured dietetic care. While these medications can reduce appetite and support initial weight loss, long-term success depends on building sustainable eating habits before, during, and after treatment. Working with a registered dietitian helps you develop balanced meal patterns, protect muscle mass and manage appetite changes - key factors when planning to reduce or stop medication. This structured approach reduces the risk of weight regain and supports lasting weight management without extreme restriction, helping you transition off GLP-1 medications with confidence and stability.
